The Dissent

Dissent

If it wasn’t for Mayor Brown really seeing the case for what it was who knows how long the case would have been going. In the year 2000 it was stated that Ahmed Ali had post traumatic disorder and that he needed the systems help. (ailv.achim) what more proof did they need a man trying to take his life or another man taking his life in prison or the detention center. I’m glad to see that they granted him protection and he is now a free man. The board of immigration appeals found that Ahmed Ali conviction was a particularly a serious crime.(ailv.achim) This was not a serious crime the man suffered from a disorder and should of not been punished because of the immigrations stupidity. I’m very pleased to see how the case ended up however not pleased about the process it had to go through.

My arguement

My own argument

I feel that this case took way too long to go through the courts it should have been dismissed years ago. When I look at this case I see racism and politics the two words that run this country into the ground. There’s no such thing as being fair anymore when it comes to the government. This country needs more people on the courts that look at things in both perspectives not just from one standpoint. They should look at the big picture and everything that surrounds it not just the culture that someone comes from. I don’t agree with the way that Ahmed Ali was treated in the detention center if all the courts know his condition of post traumatic disorder could of gotten more bad. The thing that makes me angry is why did it take so long to solve this case? What does that tell you about our government, and who we have working for us. When I think of the Declaration of independence I think of what it took for our country as a whole to go through to get our independence. Just because someone is not American doesn’t mean they don’t struggle to be one. I feel that our country is always letting our pride get in the way and we’re on each other’s team and nobody else’s. The other countries will always be in alliance with us do to our cockiness because we can’t admit we need help.

Rule of law

Rule of law

Just because you have a sickness doesn’t mean that people care such as the courts. The courts found him guilty and wanted Ahmed Ali locked up and with no protection from torture. They had no remorse what so ever for him and wanted the key thrown away. They finally came to their senses and looked at the case more clearly. This case was finalized and dismissed in 2007 it shouldn’t of taken so long for Ahmed Ali to be free. Mayor Brown is the one that looked at the case one more time and reached an agreement with the U.S. solicitor general. (ailv.achim)

The reasoning of the court

Reasoning of the court

The courts denied Ahmed ali protection and wanted to keep him detained. (ailv.achim) This all started because a man had a fight and received a state battery charge which led him to an 11 month sentence. (ailv.achim) Ahmed Ali was diagnosed with post traumatic disorder and the government was still denying his requests to have the terms of the detention reviewed. (ailv.achim) personally I don’t understand the process that this case had to go through. He obviously was suffering from a sickness and could not help that he went through a tough time growing up. If it was an American that got in a fight and had an 11 month sentence it probably would have been different. The proceedings that took place was ludicrous when the homeland security took custody and put Ahmed Ali in an immigration detention and initiated deportation. (ailv.achim) they should have looked at the case thoroughly instead of wanting to convict him.

The decison of court

The decision of the court

The court decision was that Ahmed Ali suffered from post traumatic disorder and his case was dismissed and he’s to have protection from the government. (Immigrant justice.org.com) Courts around the United States have interpreted the meaning of “particularly serious crime” different in ways, resulting in inconsistent and often unfair treatment of immigrants. (Immigrant justice.org.com). The serious crime was that they weren’t offering refuge protection for him. Ahmed Ali was trying to overcome the images of the murders that he seen when he was in Somalia living with his family. Ahmed was dealing with enough of ethnic conflicts in Somalia, so when he came to the Unites States, he just wanted a new start into his future. He started attending classes at Madison area technical college, and started to get on the right track, and then he got into a fight and that’s what started it all. This case went through several courts before it was heard clearly. Finally in 2007 it was dismissed and the settlements were granting Mr. Ali protection and once again his new start. If the system was fair and looked at all the facts of the case this could have been solved years ago. I think that the government forgets about what other countries experience, and the living conditions that they live each day. If they would take a minute and not be so judgmental, and really look at the picture, than justice can be served fairly. The poverty in Somalia is shocking and the thing that happen there are unspeakable. This state is failing and can’t provide the basic needs to the people. (www.icrc.org) the courts treated Amed Ali like a terrorists which he was afraid of and killed his family. We all are humans foreign are not we all serve a purpose on this earth and we don’t need to be constantly judged on a daily basis. Which we could use from other countries, but our pride always gets in the way.

ilicit trading

The illicit trade

Before the film I didn’t see the big deal with knockoffs but now I feel different. The pharmaceutical process is very disturbing. The country is buying fake drugs I really had no idea. I knew that the counterfeiting was bad but watching this film really put it into perspective. It’s crazy how much knockoffs are transported through the United States. It’s a constant operation that is run by the crooks of our every day society. Who would think the average person that you see on the streets could be involved a counterfeit operation. I had no idea that it happen in so many countries this was an eye opener for me. It was disturbing to see the president of a country and also the minister that were’ leaders ended up being involved in a drug operation. We have these leaders that we look up to and even vote for them in some cases and then find out that they are just as guilty as the crooks that are involved in the deal. To think that I attended a purse party where knockoffs were sold. That’s crazy to think that even those are bad for our society all to a quick buck. I really enjoyed this film because it had the realization of our world today. I knew they had smart business men but not stupid. They were smart to not have the merchandise out and for them to have it in a ware house. Not a good idea though to have the consumer follow them to the spot. Why wouldn’t think that a cop could be tracking them. I will not participate in such as a thing as downloading a movie off the internet or buying a knockoff purse. This film was shocking and useful to me loved it.

Issue of case

The issue of the case (The Brief)

The issue of the case was that a refuge from Somalia was locked up several times for confrontations with other cell mates. I believe that this case got very segregated, and racial against Ahmed Ali and his ethnicity. When individuals come from other countries they’re automatically separated from the citizens of the United States. This is how judgmental our country can be by not giving individuals outside our country a chance. If the courts would have investigated this case more closely, and seen that this Refuge from Somalia suffered from post traumatic stress disorder, this case could have been already dismissed.

The National immigrant justice center should be held responsible for this case lasting as long as it did. They put him through some real bad times which didn’t need to happen. In June 7, 2002 Ahmed Ali was placed in an immigration detention, even though in June 2000 he was diagnosed with post traumatic post disorder. (Google Ailv v.Achim) I believe the issue of this case is immigration, and racism which is clearly pointed out in this case. The refuge protection would not protect him as they should of. The immigration detention center thought that Ahmed Ali was harm to the other cell mates. In my opinion the immigration should have been locked up in their own cell.

What they did to this poor man was horrible. The immigration was in the wrong for so much including how long this case took to be dismissed. If they would have looked at all the facts before making judgment Ahmed Ali could have been starting a brand new life for himself. Not to mention Ahmed Ali was detained for over three years and the government kept on rejecting requests to have his terms of detention reviewed.(Google Ali V. Achim). It makes me appreciate so much, and it also makes me wonder about our system and how it really works.

Supreme court case info

Ahmed Ali

This case was settled seven years after the fact. The case is about a refuge that’s locked up because of a battery charge he had. It was announced that he had a mental disorder. This basically meant he had mental problems. He was trying to make a life for himself and people in society were knocking him down due to his religion. He had a rough life growing up in Somalia with his family because of the wars in his country. Ahmed seen unforeseeable things that he couldn’t even speak about. Ahmed was seeking medication and doing his time in jail for his battery charge in Wisconsin and trying to get out of jail and just be an American citizen. This was hard to do because he was moved to the immigrant detention where he was deported where he was held there for 3 years. The government was not abiding by the law they had Ahmed Ali in a non suitable living situation. They wouldn’t review the detention and it took more than five years for his case to be carefully reviewed. They found that the government was violating the international law and his detention was arbitrary. The government didn’t even pay attention to his rights for they didn’t seem to consider him worthy of that. Religion should not be who a person is it should be what they a person believes. They have the right to feel that we all have rights and we can make our own decisions and we all have freedom of speech even if you’re from another country. Ahmed Ali was just trying to be somebody that could possibly makeup for the misfortunes he had in the past. The conclusion id you shouldn’t judge a book by the cover especially when it’s religion.

Facts of the case

Granted case on asylum rights settled

(Lawyers fought for a refuge by the name of Ahmed Ali which was from Somalia who came to the United States eighty years ago. He was convicted Wisconsin of substantial battery and as a result was ordered to be deported in the year 2002.) google Scotus blog on supreme court cases. In my opinion, Ahmed Ali shouldn’t have been deported in the first place, just because he was a refuge. The case shouldn’t have taken so long to settle why should it take 7 years? when it should of take at the most 3 to 4 years. In this case it talks about how Ahmed Ali was diagnosed with post –diagnostic disorder due to his flashbacks that he had when he was growing up in Somalia. He saw some horrible things such as some of his family was killed in front of him. In 1999 Ahmed and his sister moved to Wisconsin where they were trying to start a life for their selves. They attended school and got a job at a retail store. In the year two thousand Ahmed started receiving medical treatment for his disorder. He started to get into altercations quite a bit and that led to his arrest. Ahmed got into arguments with the inn mates regarding his religion and once this occurred the immigration and naturalization service they moved him to an immigration detention. This was so inappropriate on their end why would they do such a thing? To me that is not going to help the situation. This to me is considered racism.

Property rights

WHAT ARE YOUR RIGHTS AS A PROPERTY OWNER?

You have the right to ask the renter for references and do a credit check. You also can do anything to the apt or house as the landlord of the property. The landlord has the right to collect the rent of the tenant which is agreed with the tenant and the landlord. The landlord also has the right to have collection of the possession of the property at the end of the lease. The tenant is responsible for any damages on the property. The property owner is in charge of all documents that should be in writing for the lease. The landlord must make sure that all things are fixed and paid for before the tenant moves in. If the tenant does something unlawful to the apt or house the landlord has the right to take action. The landlord also has the right to make changes to lease as long as they notify the tenant beforehand. It must be in writing though that would be breaking the law depending what state you’re in. The landlord also may chose who they rent to. The landlord must take full responsibility when it comes to the lease not in writing and it’s verbal. If you have a verbal lease and you don’t have it in writing then nothing is set in stone. The landlord can’t change locks of tenants place unless a written letter is dropped on their door. The letter must be I writing and signed by the landlord. The owner has the right to call any references that were given on the application. Then owner can enter the appt or house as long as the tenant is informed by mail. The landlord also can raise the rent of the lease when it’s up. It’s their decision as a property owner.

greed is good week 6

My comment on Wall Street and the economic crisis that we go through. Years ago our country had economic struggles and still today we face the same. Wall Street is known for our businesses succeeding and failing at the same time. The main purpose of the economy deflating is the poor manager incompetence that was used. A year later we are still trying to clean up our society and mess that has taken place. The decisions that were being used on the business side of things were poor judgment in so many ways. If you’re giving a president in the company a raise make sure that your financials for the year match and you’re not spending the company’s revenue. So many companies thought that they wouldn’t get caught on the little things like getting over paid and then when they did they acted in a state of shock. When companies like Citibank, Wachovia, and the general motors’ were faced with the bailout some of the managers were still using their status and showing it off. The stocks seem to be going back up a little because people are starting to spend a little more. I think that these big corporations are getting paid more than they should. I think that they are shady in so many ways and can’t be trusted with our money. The United States takes a slap in the face so much for corporation’s mistakes. When owning your own business you need a business plan and strategies to go along with it. You should always have a budget and an accountant that handles all the financial statements and transactions that come through. I like what they say in the movie about greed because it’s so true in so many ways. Michael Douglas was genius in the movie he always knew what to say and he knew how to say it.

bong hits for jesus

Bong hits for Jesus response

I believe in freedom of speech and we should have rights as citizens of the United States. I also believe in the amendments, and our constitutional rights and what laws that should abide by. I think that school was only trying to protect their students, and the schools safety environment. In my opinion I feel that Fredrick’s banner was inappropriate I didn’t really like what it said that can really offend some people. The court said that it all took place during school hours perhaps if took place after school it might not have been such a big deal. When they suspended Fredrick so abruptly it was a bad judgment constitutionally because they weren’t thinking of his rights. I do agree that the banner could have been promoting illegal drug abuse just by the words that are being used. When you’re in high school you should be concentrated on school, and learning, and not promoting drugs at school. In do understand why the school got so upset with the students and their behavior. I understand that In this case the school and the students had their own opinion of what they thought was right and wrong. Freedom of speech is used a lot in this case because it plays a big role in the event. I do think that freedom of speech is a little over rated Individuals try to use it in everyday life a little too much. Perhaps if the banner didn’t talk about drugs or religion it might have been ok. If it said you have the right to vote for what you believe in so the choice is yours that might have been more suitable. Perhaps the teachers could also be at fault for not supervising the kids more and seeing the banners before entered the school premises.

Keonia Angel’s blog on lawyers

I agree with a lot of things that Keonia said regarding lawyers such as they don’t morally represent well and they seem to not use good judgment. They do get payed a ridiculous amount of money though what they’re capable of saying or doing. They had mentioned that they’re not always truthful which I feel is accurate to say. I do agree that it does matter if it’s a plaintiff or defendant because it matters on the situation and what it details. Lawyers are there to make it smoother for you but they also can complicate things as well. I do agree that lawyers are great when it comes to traffic tickets because you don’t half to worry about points that are counted on your insurance. I know that I don’t want to pay a huge amount for a ticket and have points taken off and have a higher payment for my insurance.

Seth’s blog on lawyers

My thoughts on this blog were they had a lot of key points on the way lawyers are perceived in the system. What his mom said that there good ones that show justice and then there are the lawyers that are bad and don’t go by the law. I completely agreed that lawyers are like any other profession. There’s the good and bad side to any profession. I do feel that lawyers that can be incompetent but there is so many other professions or people that are as well. Layers are sneaky in so many ways for sure but there are some that you can also trust. The ones in Vegas though aren’t as bad as California’s. I can definitely relate to the car accident comment I had a great lawyer when I was in a car accident. His staff was great and he was a great lawyer.

Lawyer letter

What do I think of lawyers?

Lawyers can protect our society but they can also harm our society. The system can be screwed up in many ways such as what is fair and isn’t fair. So many trials have been won due to by the book lawyers and then there are the ones that don’t play by the book and they have their own set of rules. These lawyers are the ones that usually tend to get paid a huge amount to make sure that the client gets off free. For example the OJ Simpson was a prime example of this you had your good and your bad lawyers such as Johnny Cochran that let a man go. Lawyers to me are like doctors and car salesman there after your money. Who can you really trust in the government or congress at that matter? It really makes you wonder is the judicial system fair or is it? Lawyers are focused on getting paid and their out to get their money. Lawyers like to lie in court and make the jury think that their client is innocent because there’s not enough evidence against them. Lawyers seem to get away with so much due to their title of being a lawyer. Lawyers remind me of doctors they want you to keep on coming back for more. Truth is not something that they usually speak it’s usually a false pretense. Although theirs is some lawyers that fight for the client because the client is innocent and not guilty. The guilty ones will get karma eventually. Lawyers are real sneaky and their tactics are very overpowering over the court system. They can be jerks and they also can be the nicest people because they speak the truth.

The law is a tricky word what really is the definition of the law? Laws are not made to be broken that’s why they are called laws. Laws come in many shape and forms. There’s the truth and not the truth when it comes to certain situations. When I think of the law I think of your constitutional rights and our declaration of independence. The system should give us independence but not too much freedom cause individuals will take advantage of our government. We the people will take action for what we know is wrong and face the consequences. Having freedom of speech in our country is important to us as citizens; however some people take advantage of this. The system is wrong in so many ways; it also can be good in so many ways. Criminals are constantly being set free cause poor judgment on the cases that go to trial. Trials seem to only last a short period of time it seems when the convicted felon is charged with something like murder they seem to get off due a lawyer that they hired. The court system In Vegas seems to have poor judges that work in the court houses. They seem to get underpaid and there not happy with their career choice. The system also is also good and puts trials like the mothers killing their babies away. These people have psychological problems and need to be locked up. The system needs to improve in certain areas such as the drug busts that are still rapidly happening in the United States. I also feel that too many people go through stop signs and are not pulled over enough. Some cops are for the law and some are not for the law.
